In Canada, Terri-Anne Wilson works together with her underprivileged
inner-city students at Holly Elementary to raise money for
their Cambodian counterparts. Completing the many raffles,
penny and teddy bear drives offers students a chance to develop
a sense of pride, self worth and accomplishment while lending
assistance to Sokchea and his school in Cambodia. Remarkably,
their efforts show results. The childrens’ grades slowly
begin to improve. Truancy decreases and they become genuinely
interested in the fundraising efforts and results. Everyone
wants to know how the ‘Cambodian kids’ are doing.

|
Meanwhile Terri-Anne plans a trip to Cambodia
where she will meet Sokchea for the first time. Together,
with the money raised by the children of Holly Elementary,
they will work together to do 3 things. 1) Find a new location
for the school as the current owner of the space, a Thai businessman,
has already informed them that he will be kicking them out
and selling the structure for profit. 2) Create a model for
skill development and classroom management strategies for
the teachers, and 3) Establish a curriculum center and teacher
resource library with up to date teacher training texts including
access to on-line education.

Will Terri-Anne's efforts be enough to provide Sokchea with
the tools he needs to carry forward, or will the ‘New
Generation Kindergarten’ be forced to close its doors
before they ever really open? Watch two dedicated teachers
work towards creating positive change in the lives of children
from dramatically different cultures. In an odyssey of the
mind, heart and spirit, share in their triumphs and struggles
as they help a collection of young people from opposite ends
of the globe begin to recognize their own worth and potential.
And watch as the children take their first faltering steps
back to reclaim their birthright: their childhood.
